for when she is feeling better. Take her to lunch, go out window
shopping, spend an afternoon making cookies.
Do fun simple things to lift her spirits. My mom passed to breast
cancer a few weeks ago. Take the time you have with her now, and do
fun little things.
Of course make sure she has appropriate anti-depression meds, and if
she needs sleep medication to help her sleep or any other medication
get it. If her onc doesn't feel comfortable perscribing it, goto
your regular gp. mom's onc didn't want to do the anti-depressant,
went to regular gp. Once we had the script and she was fine on it,
onc was fine writing refills.
I think its important to adjust your time and expectations of what
mom wants to be able to do, and what you want to do with mom too. As
one goes thru the BC journey. Being more tired is part of the game.
So, pick activities she can handle. Plus, don't be afraid to take
her some place fun, with the expectation she can only handle a
couple hours of fun. Yes, it does cost the same if your there for 2
hours or 10 hours, but having some quality time of a couple hours can
be very precious.
Last summer mom wasn't wanting to go anywhere, cause she wasn't full
strength. Well, we finally convinced her to goto disney with us in
feb. We did disney, mom style. She went out for 1-5 hrs every day.
Some days only made it out and hour, one day she was out for 5 hours.
If your mom choses not to do treatment, try to get behind her and
suport her decision. Make plans and do things and enjoy your time
together.
