[cancercured] Cure Rates /Re: gerson

Hi,

Sorry, but I'm skeptical when the data comes from the practitioner,
and not from an independent agency without financial interest. If I
say, for example, buy my potion because it cures 50% of the patients
I've given it to, would you buy my book or the potion based on that
alone?

The way drug evaluations for marketing approval work is up front the
sponsor designs the study with say 300 participants (the denominator)
and the participants are randomized to the new versus the standard of
care. This phase can only happen if earlier single arm studies show
promise. The investigators in multiple centers who administer the
protocols are often blinded as are the patients.

The outcomes are measured by an independent data monitoring committee
and then unblinded. The sponsor has no idea what the outcome will be
until the unblinding. The endpoints measured depend on the cancer
type. Survival for aggressive cancers, but time to progression for
indolent types is a common surrogate for clinical benefit.

Studies are never done for cancer, but for specific cancers. If the
new protocol is better than the standard therapy, or rarely a
placebo, FDA will prove it.

In summary, I don't see how something written in a book by the seller
of the service can be considerd reliable unbiased information.
That's not to say that we always have the time to wait for a proven
therapy, or that sometimes we should not take calculated risks. But
to judge the outcomes for a treatment, you have to first understand
the methods used to achieve the results, and the methods of testing
should be transparent (calling your shot in advance, not after you
take it) and such that they show objectively the true value of the
treatment, relative to something else, or no treatment. This is
called scientific method.

Just my two cents. ~ Karl
