[cancercured] Cruciferous vegetables and thyroid

Hi,

I recently came across information that cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, kale, brussels
sprouts, and even flax seeds and their oil, are goitrogens. In other words, they can interfere
with the function of the thyroid gland.

This is not a big deal for those with healthy thyrdoids. But it is bad news for me as my
mother had Graves Disease and her sister (my aunt) also had something wrong with her
thyroid, though I don't know what.

Apparently, if you cook the vegetables, even steam them, it knocks out some of the
goitrogenic activity. Does anybody know anything more about this?

Is it that the raw cruciferous vegetables reduce the iodine uptake in susceptible people, in
which case you could supplement a little iodine?
