You do not need to experience a 'side effect' in order to also
experience a benefit, although many many people could tell you that
they have experienced effects from taking melatonin, myself included.
Many people can take 20mg without a noticeable side effect. If you
really want to try getting a side effect, try taking a higher dose.
50mg would certainly not hurt you a night or two. Even then you might
not notice anything, but again it wouldnt mean it isnt working for you.
Natural melatonin production decreases as we age and is not something
you can get by eating certain foods.
