An herbal cream developed by a Filipino inventor to
cure a common skin cancer will be sold in Australia
and Canada starting this year, the Department of
Agriculture said. The department said the cream was
invented by Rolando de la Cruz to cure "basal cell
carcinoma" (BCC), a common skin ailment that affects
about a million people. It said the cream was
developed mainly from extracts of cashew nuts using
biotechnology.
Marketed through the RCC Amazing Touch International,
the cream was earlier introduced in Europe and the
United States, where it made waves and led to
inquiries from other countries, the agriculture
department said. Companies from Canada and Australia
have sought exclusive distributorships for the cream,
it added.
De la Cruz said it was in the late 1970s when he
discovered that cashew nut extracts could be used to
remove warts and moles since these naturally produce
heat. He said he thought the extracts could also cure
BCC, since surgical treatments for BCC require heat to
sear the tumor before it is excised.
He said he did more research to develop the cream.
Last year, the herbal cream was one of the 11 awardees
at the 93rd Annual Clinical Congress of the American
College of Surgeons, De la Cruz said. He said that in
2006 his non-surgical treatment of BCC earned him the
Double Gold Award and a Diamond Award at the British
Invention Show. Later that year, he said, he won the
Obelisk Award as a world-class inventor.
RCC Amazing Touch International has 17 clinics
nationwide and has exclusive distributorships in
clinics in Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, United Kingdom,
Switzerland and the United States.
