It is unusual that the oncologist would consider using Rituxan as a
stand alone, I do think it is a good idea though if the lymphoma has
not yet turned aggressive. The use of accompanying cytotoxic chemo
actually decreases any latency period until progression. Rituxan is
not a true chemo even though it can have side effects. I know of a
number of B-cell NHL (mostly intermediate grade) whose lives were
saved by this med. I know of one pharmacist with mantle cell
lymphoma who declined to do our program and went for Rituxan
instead. He had an allergic response to it and died from the first
treatment. As a pharmacist he was just too entrained into orthodoxy
to consider an approach that required a little patience and a little finesse.
