By no means do I mean to read your mind, nor do I mean any harm or
insult by what I am going to say. If the shoe fits, wear it. If it
does not, and it certainly may not, as there are certainly depressed
people whom it would not fit, then it is still worth knowing.
I suffered from depression for many years, and I know, certainly,
that a goodly portion of the depression came from being much too
concerned about myself---from being too self-absorbed, from not
caring enough about others, not reaching out to other people and not
trying to do enough good for others.
Obviously, Al, I have no idea in this world what is going on with
you, who you are, where you live, who you live with, etc, etc. So
again, it is not a diagnosis, much less an accusation I am making. It
is simply stating something I have found was true in myself and that
I believe is true for many other depressed or otherwise mentally
affected people.
Something else: There is a direct link between depression and cancer:
That is, depression can help to cause cancer. Why? Because depression
depresses not only a person's thoughts; it also depresses his immune
system. Furthermore, it depresses his breathing, and we know that a
body that is not sufficiently oxygenated is more likely to develop
cancer than one that is. Finally, a depressed person tends to be more
sedentary and to exercise less than someone who is not depressed, so
there is less lymphatic flow in a depressed person.
Too often alternative health people immediately begin recommending
this herb or that food to counteract depression, without any
consideration regarding the personality and behavior of the person
who is depressed.
Again, if this is of any help, wonderful. If it is not, I still think
it is something worth knowing.
Best wishes and best of health,
Elliot
