Daughtersofmoms withBREASTCANCER Genetic Testing

Hello. I have seen a few questions being asked about genetic testing
and if it is worth it. My family has the BRCA1 genetic mutation. My
mother had breast cancer at 44 and 56 and when doing a preventive
oopherectomy (premature breast cancer mutation is also linked to
premature ovarian cancer) they found cancer in her fallopian tube. Her
sister had breast cancer at 44, 45 and 46. And that same sisters
daughter was just diagnosed with breast cancer in December at age 28.
Because of this history, I opted to have a Prophylactic (Preventive)
Double Mastectomy with Tissue Expansion Reconstruction in December (I
am 37). I didn't want to wait until I received the 'C' diagnosis. It
was lucky for me that I had the surgery because they found an 8mm
tumor in my left breast that the mammograms and MRI did not show.
Yes, I had cancer. My point of all this is that if you have a history
of cancer in your family, it is SO important to have the test. It is
important for yourself and for all of the members of your family.
Unfortunately, the genetic mutations are like 'fate' and you have to
be proactive in everyway to try and change your path. If anyone has
any questions about my surgery or recovery please ask! Thank you.
