I know that Alka seltzer (pur, not the kind where they put drugs into it) has been used for many years as a help in curing the flu. I htink it was actually used for that initially, not for heartburn

Hello sharon,
Except in a "first aid" type situation, when you have a little
heartburn and need to quickly remedy it, there is no merit to taking
baking soda by mouth. Don't make a habit of it for the heartburn,
either. People with heartburn usually have too little acid, not too
much.
Baking soda is very high in sodium and will adversely effect many
hypertensives.
All of this Simoncini/baking soda stuff needs to be "taken with a
grain of salt".
