I think the situation here might be that if a woman has normal
estrogen levels, then red clover is good because the phytoestrogens
block the endogenous estrogen and their stimulation effect is less.
On the other hand, if a woman is post menopausal, either due to age or
to hysterectomy, then the red clover might not be a good idea because
it is supplying some estrogen effect on receptors above that produced
by low endogenous levels. The exception here might be an obese post
menopausal woman who might have near normal estrogen levels due to
peripheral conversion in the fat stores. In that case phytoestrogen
might be a good idea once again.
