7 Mass. residents are ill after eating tainted meat
Boston Globe
Seven people in Massachusetts have fallen ill, most likely after eating beef
sold at Whole Foods Market, leading the grocery chain yesterday to recall
all ground beef sold between June 2 and Aug. 6.
The contamination is a major blow to a chain that promotes its food as
superior to a typical grocery store's - and that is already struggling in
the weak economy.

First California Attorney General Jerry Brown filed suit against WFMI for
carrying numerous bodycarep products with 1,4-dioxane, a proven carcinogen.
I wrote about this as Managing Editor of Santa Fe Sun News, and then I wrote
several articles over the past two months, asking the FTC to reexamine their
prior correct ruling that Whole Foods/Wild Oats merger was an illegal
monopolistic merger, and as such as violation of anti trust laws.
Then the Federal Court of Appeals panel decided to remand the case back to
the original Federal Trial Judge Friedman as his ruling was flawed, to allow
the merger to continue without clearly understanding what the FTC was saying.
Now, this. E Coli at the most trusted (supposedly, which I don't share for a
minute) "organic" chain in the United States: there were numerous warnings
that Nebraska Beef was a bad one, but Whole Foods kept using them. One
fellow on Yahoo Finance Message Board stated that this proves Whole Foods is
no different from other Big Box stores. What a beating the stock will
deservedly take.
TIME TO BAIL OUT AND SELL YOU SHARES WHILE YOU CAN. WFMI will hit hat sizes
soon, like 7 3/4.
