No, the e-meter is basically a skin galvometer. It is one form of a
lie detector. It measures the resistance to a small current sent
through the skin. Theoretically, when you get nervous, you start
sweating a little and your skin resistance to current goes down.
So there is a fair amount of science in it, although the e-meter is a
poorer form of a skin galvometer. Better forms have finger clips
rather than "soup cans" you grab.

If Scientology is a religion, explain exactly what it is that they
worship?
They don't worship e-meters, and e-meters are considered
technological devices by them to enhance their "tech" of
(theoretically) clearing minds of hypnotic suggestions. E-meters are
a form of lie detector, plain and simple. Skin galvometers.

Why such hostility? I must have hit some sort of nerve...
