Re: [cancercured] PROSTATE CANCER BREAK THROUGH...

JoeC,
Good point. Medicine uses what I call "parallel reasoning" quite often. They manage to equate symptoms to illness and that is wrong. Illness predates symptoms.
In this case "if the tumors shrink, the cancer must be under remission" is another typical sophism.
"If I remove the tumors the cancer will be removed" is another nonsensical argument. every thinking person knows they are lying.
A mechanic friend of mine used to summarize their thinking ba saying that the underlying pronciple of medical research is based on "if you can not repair the problem with a hammer must be electric"

Pardon me if my Curmudgeon trait comes shining through here. How can one not be skeptical? However, if this drug can 'shrink prostate tumors', shrinkage not necessarily related to survival, the real benefit will be the cessation of using the 'heroic' methods normally used. These 'heroic' methods, surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, are probably more responsible for deaths than many prostate cancers.

Where is the evidence that shrinking prostate or other tumors is strongly related to survivability?

In fact, there is much evidence that 'tumor response', the term used when a drug or treatment reduces a tumor, has little effect on survival.

OK, that said, let us hope this 'yet another miracle', works. Sadly, the track record for 'miracle' cancer cures during the entire 40+ year war on cancer is pretty dismal..... or have I been reading the wrong medical results ?
