Hi, Jim.
I will tell you what is working for me. There are members who will
disagree with various parts of what I say. That makes sense, as we
all need to pay attention to and to cater to the one body we were
born with. What works for me may not work for someone else. One of
the best things about alternative medicine is that it is not based
on "one size fits all," "one treatment heals all." It very much takes
into account our differences.
I do believe, along with most others who believe in
natural/alternative healing, that the body is a miraculous machine
that can give its user many years of excellent service if it is
properly fed and watered, exercised and otherwise given the tender,
loving care it needs and deserves. I also believe the body can more
often than not heal itself if given good support and nurturing. (On
the other hand, I will not hesitate to get myself to the hospital if
I come down with galloping pneumonia.) It's true that great numbers
of people take better care of their cars than they do their bodies,
and that if people neglected their cars the way most do their bodies,
those cars would be junk long before their time. The poor body can
stand tremendously more abuse before it begins failing than a car can!
There are many different anti-cancer lifestyles lived by many
different people. Here is a rundown of what works for me, not
necessarily in chronological order or in order of importance. And I
vary the supplements in it from time to time:
First, begin by pronouncing the word "disease" this way: "diss-eze,"
so that it takes on its real meaning: "a lack of ease" in you,
physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually or all four, that has
probably given rise to the cancer with which you are dx'd. That gives
you a viable basis from which to begin your plan. I believe it is
very difficult for cancer to thrive in a body/mind that has been
restored to easeful functioning, restored to easeful funct
Maintain a healthful weight. (For those who are significantly
overweight, and have had a very difficult time losing pounds and
keeping them off, my wife has embarked on what appears to be a very
promising weight loss program that resets the hypothalamus so that
one does not regain the weight. She does not want to share it though,
until she has actually attained and maintained, for a year, her
normal weight.)
Eat plenty of raw vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and grains. Chew
them WELL before swallowing, for best absorption. Eat little to no
animal protein. I am convinced, from my own reading and research,
eating animal protein, however it was raised, whatever it was fed,
increases the likelihood of cancer and all other degenerative dis-
eases.
Drink plenty of purified water. I drink reverse osmosis-filtered
water that I get from WalMart for 37 cents a gallon, if I remember
correctly. At least 8 glasses of water a day or even 1/2 oz per pound
of body weight is good to aim for, apparently.
Exercise moderately at least 5 days a week. I use a rebounder, and
bounce and jog gently on it for 25 to 45 minutes daily. I also
intend, one of these days, to add 3 days a week of light weight-
training, so as to keep up my muscle and bone strength. I believe the
latter is a necessity if I wish to be as strong and healthy as
possible into old age.
Get regular fresh air and intelligent sun exposure. In the dark
months of winter, take vitamin D3 to make up for the vitamin D your
skin is not making.
Get regular sleep each night. Most people need 8 hours a night and
most people function best and are healthiest the earlier before
midnight that they put out the lights. Anthropoids-midnight
chimpanzees, orangutans, monkeys and gorillas, the creatures closest
to us genetically, are asleep by dusk and awake at dawn. Humans have
very seriously violated that very basic, natural principle, and
scientific research is revealing to us that many of us pay seriously
for "burning the candle at both ends." I admit I am STILL, after
YEARS of attempting to do so, having a terribly difficult time having
the lights out at my home by even 10 pm.
If you are diagnosed with active cancer, read and research both the
Budwig and Gerson therapies and see if one or the other looks like
something you feel you can do. Neither is foolproof, but each has a
significant record of healing many individuals.
I take quite a few supplements. I have already mentioned D3, which is
an excellent, important cancer preventer and fighter. I also take
selenium, (VERY important for the health of the immune system),
curcumin, mushroom exctract, CoQ10, grape seed extract, alfalfa,
spirulina, chlorella, zinc, bee propolis, lecithin, fish oil,
magnesium, Iodoral, B Complex, B-12 and liquid mineral drops. I have
tried various vitamin C supplements, but they all make me so gassy I
am not currently taking C, and am instead hoping my diet is giving me
enough C. I take low-dose naltrexone 4.5 mg each night before bed.
I try to have a "green smoothie" each morning, consisting of lots of
dark greens and some fruit to make it palatable.
I continue to deal with lowering unnecessary stress in my life. That
means "picking my battles"---what is worth getting angry or upset
about and what is not---and regular work on my personality, so as to
become stronger/to build my ego so that fewer and fewer things "get
my goat." (Contrary to popular myth, it is the person with the big
ego who is easier to get along with, not the person with a small ego,
who is easily made defensive and fearful.)
I hope that is helpful to some degree, Jim.
Best wishes and best of health,
Elliot
