Pepper Component Hot Enough To Trigger Suicide In Prostate Cancer Cells

Capsaicin, the stuff that turns up the heat in jalapeños, not only
causes the tongue to burn, it also drives prostate cancer cells to kill
themselves, according to studies published in the March 15 issue of
Cancer Research.

According to a team of researchers from the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive
Cancer Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, in collaboration with
colleagues from UCLA, the pepper component caused human prostate cancer
cells to undergo programmed cell death or apoptosis. Capsaicin induced
approximately 80 percent of prostate cancer cells growing in mice to
follow the molecular pathways leading to apoptosis. Prostate cancer
tumors treated with capsaicin were about one-fifth the size of tumors in
non-treated mice.
"Capsaicin had a profound anti-proliferative effect on human prostate
cancer cells in culture," said Sören Lehmann, M.D., Ph.D., visiting
scientist at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the UCLA School of
Medicine. "It also dramatically slowed the development of prostate
tumors formed by those human cell lines grown in mouse models." Lehmann
estimated that the dose of pepper extract fed orally to the mice was
equivalent to giving 400 milligrams of capsaicin three times a week to a
200 pound man, roughly equivalent to between three and eight fresh
habañera peppers – depending on the pepper's capsaicin content.
Habañeras are the highest rated pepper for capsaicin content according
to the Scoville heat index. Habañero peppers, which are native to the
Yucatan, typically contain up to 300,000 Scoville units. The more
popular Jalapeño variety from Oaxaca, Mexico, and the southwest United
States, contains 2,500 to 5,000 Scoville units. As described in their
study, the scientists observed that capsaicin inhibited the activity of
NF-kappa Beta, a molecular mechanism that participates in the pathways
leading to apoptosis in many cell types. Apoptosis is a normal cellular
event in many tissues that maintains a balance between newer replacement
cells and aged or worn cells. In contrast, cancer cells seek to be
immortal and often dodge apoptosis by mutating or deregulating the genes
that participate in programmed cell death. "When we noticed that
capsaicin affected NF-kappa Beta, that was an indication that we might
expect some of the apoptotic proteins to be affected," said the study's
senior author, Phillip Koeffler, M.D., director of Hematology and
Oncology, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and professor at UCLA.
The pepper extract also curbed the growth of prostate cancer cells
through regulation of androgen receptors, the steroid activated proteins
that control expression of specific growth relating genes. In prostate
cancer cells whose growth is dependent on testosterone, the predominant
male sex steroid, capsaicin reduced cell proliferation in a
dose-dependent manner. Increased concentrations of capsaicin caused more
prostate cancer cells to freeze in a non-proliferative state, called
G0/G1.
Prostate cancer cells that are androgen independent reacted to capsaicin
in a similar manner. Capsaicin reduced the amount of androgen receptor
that the tumor cells produced, but did not interfere with normal
movement of androgen receptor into the nucleus of the cancer cells where
the steroid receptor acts to regulate androgen target genes such as
prostate specific antigen (PSA). Capsaicin also interfered with the
action of androgen receptors even in cells that were modified to produce
excess numbers of androgen receptors.
The hot pepper component also reduced cancer cell production of PSA, a
protein that often is produced in high quantities by prostate tumors and
can signal the presence of prostate cancer in men. PSA content in the
blood of men is used as a diagnostic prostate cancer screening measure.
PSA is regulated by androgens, and capsaicin limited androgen-induced
increases of PSA in the cancer cell lines. More men in the United States
develop prostate cancer than any other type of malignancy. Every year,
more than 232,000 new cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed in the
U.S., and more than 680,000 develop the disease worldwide. Approximately
30,000 men die from prostate cancer in the U.S. each year, which is
about 13 percent of all new cases. Worldwide, there are 221,000 deaths
– approximately 31 per cent – among men with prostate cancer. Lehman
conducted the studies in Koeffler's laboratory in collaboration with
UCLA cancer researchers Akio Mori, James O'Kelly, Takishi Kumagai,
Julian Desmond, Milena Pervan, and William McBride. Mosahiro Kizaki, a
former post-doctoral fellow in Koeffler's laboratory who initiated the
capsaicin studies, is currently at the Keio University School of
Medicine, Tokyo, Japan.

21st CENTURY STYLE:
THE NON SPECIFICITY
OF "PROSTATE SPECIFIC" ANTIGEN
By Daniel H Duffy Sr, DC
Rewritten September 6, 2004
On Saturday, June 15, 2002 a long time patient came in for his regular
checkup and treatment via AK. He is now
77 and has been a patient for almost 30 years. He was preparing for a
senior citizen race walking event.
On a recent visit to His MD, he was examined in orthodox fashion and
found to have an elevated PSA for which an incredibly expensive drug was
prescribed. It cost over $1000 for 90 pills. Three of the pills
immediately made him sick so he stopped taking the drug after his first
three doses. Of course, he only paid five of the $1000 plus dollars it
cost - we the taxpayers paid the rest - thanks to the socially
disastrous efforts of LBJ - the father of MEDICARE.* [see short story at
the end of the Prostate article].
HERE ARE THE FACTS ON PROSTATE SPECIFIC ANTIGEN, THE PSA NOTORIOUS PSA
TEST WITH ITS
DISASTROUS RESULTS, NOW CONFESSED BY ITS CHIEF PROTAGONIST DR STAMEY OF
U OF
CAL......PASS THEM AROUND!!!
1. PSA means Prostate Specific Antigen.
2. PSA is NOT specific and has LITTLE to do with the prostate
specifically.
3. PSA is found in females with breast, lung and uterine cancers.
[whoops!] In fact, the highest levels of PSA have been found in females
RECOVERING from breast cancers. [J Nat'l Cancer Inst Oct 6, 1999,
Fortier, AH et al]
Surprise, surprise, the ladies that made the best recoveries were the
ones with the highest PSA levels!!
4. PSA appears to be an anti-angiogenic molecule. For those of you
unfamiliar with the term, one of the features of cancer is that it has
an enormous appetite and therefore needs a huge blood supply to feed it,
so wherever you see cancer growing, you will see angio-genesis taking
place - the creation of new vascular tissue. [That's why shark cartilage
became popular.]
5. PSA appears to inhibit the usual increases in circulation necessary
to feed the cancer and to support its rapid growth and proliferation.
6. Nicholas Gonzalez MD of NYC reports patients who have shown PSA
levels of a hundred or more for long
periods of time who are doing just fine as they recover from their
cancers - he opines that increased PSA levels indicates a GOOD response
by the body, NOT a BAD response. [audio tapes 12 and 17 spring 1999
lecture,
ACAM - see ordering info below]. Dr Gonzalez uses the nutritional
protocol that he learned from his teacher, the orthodontist and
scientist, Dr William Donald Kelley of Grapevine, Texas, who is one of
my three nominees for the Nobel prize in medicine [along with George J
Goodheart DC and James Pershing Isaacs MD]. Gonzalez also reports a well
recovered cancer patient with a CEA of 350,000, the highest in medical
history. See the article on this site entitled, The AMAS test, to learn
about the CEA which is another cancer marker. When a tumor breaks down
it dumps CEA into the blood stream which can be measured. WARNING AND
CAUTION NOTE!! BE CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT BLOOD TEST LEVELS
AND TUMOR SIZES, MORE IS OFTEN NOT WORSE, AND BIGGER, [TUMOR], IS OFTEN
NOT WORSE!!! The
healing process often causes tumors to encapsulate and get a little
bigger rather than smaller, although the growth is stopped and they are
walled off!!
7. So giving a toxic drug for a "specific" antigen which is not at all
"specific" is just one more in a long line of examples of medical
quackery being propagated by present establishment sources. It's sort of
like giving a deadly drug for a non infectious, non transmissible
disease [AIDS] allegedly caused by an unproved virus [HIV]. It can also
be compared to injecting newborn babies with foreign proteins and heavy
metal poisons to "protect" them from
adult diseases found mainly in intravenous dope addicts [recreational
drug users]. Note that I use the old familiar term for these human
wastrels - "dope addicts" rather than "substance abusers" - dope addict
is more apropos.
Sort of like calling a bum a bum, rather than a homeless person. Using
the euphemism "homeless person" might
make you feel better but hey, life is not fair, some people are bums.
Face it. Others are criminals. Face it. Not facing it results in what
we're discussing here. Highly educated people committing crimes against
humanity and
getting away with it largely because we indulge the use of politically
correct language. If we were in the habit of calling bums what they are,
and dope addicts what they are, we might not find it so difficult to
call an MD a quack and a criminal and begin to take steps to put them
where they belong, behind bars, not out on the street preying on the
innocent and the ignorant.
The very highly educated, brilliant doctor, Thomas Stamey published the
original study on PSA in the New England
Journal Of Medicine in 1987. He concluded, based upon his knowledge,
experience and training along with the
study result that the worse the Prostate cancer, the higher the PSA.
Exactly the opposite is true! Dr Stamey is an honest fellow though, he
recently was quoted as saying "I removed a couple of hundred prostates I
wish I hadn't." [F.B.Dunn, J Natl Cancer Inst Vol 94, No6, pp 415-16 Mar
20, 2002] The activities of Dr Stamey raise several questions:
1. Do you think that Dr Stamey should be held accountable for those
unnecessary surgeries?
2. What do you think would happen to the tobacco industry executives or
the auto industry executives or the toy
industry executives if they were caught killing, maiming or harming so
many people - especially innocent children like those suffering from
quack vaccine induced disabilities and death?
3. Do you think the deaths of prostate cancer patients resulting from
misdiagnosis and maltreatment became part
of the statistics used to place the practice of orthodox medicine in
third place on the list of causes of unnecessary deaths in the USA?
4. Are you beginning to get the right idea about the dreadful effects
orthodox medicine in the 21st century?
5. Why is it that many people are serving prison sentences for shaken
baby syndrome [many of whom are victims
of medical misdiagnosis] and doctors are quick to charge lay people with
neglect and abuse but we see no doctors
serving time for the same reasons? Since 328 people are killed every day
by orthodox medical activity, why do we
not see a lot of doctors in jail? Isn't it time we began holding them
responsible in the same manner they hold lay people responsible? I'll
say it once again, CONSENSUS-DRIVEN, ORTHODOX MEDICINE IS CRIMINAL
BEHAVIOR, IT IS BAD FOR
YOUR HEALTH AND IT IS THE ROOT SOURCE OF ALL OF THE MEDICAL QUACKERY OF
THE 21st
CENTURY. It is also the greatest threat to life and limb and health in
all recorded history. Do you REALLY think that orthodox medicine is only
number three in the cause of deaths in the USA? If you believe that I
have a bridge to sell you! Most of the deaths caused by orthodox medical
doctors go unreported and unrecognized for what they are. The reported
figures are only the tiny tip of a very large iceberg. This
underreporting is especially true of vaccine reactions. Especially in
infants and young school aged children. And we want to trust these
people and accept what they have to say about VACCINES and HRT [hormone
replacement therapy] etc.??? We want to trust these consensus driven
quacks to inject our neonates with
poisons? We want to accept the dribble and gobbledook nonsense they
continue to propagate about vaccines,
phantom diseases, phantom viruses, bacteria and prions as the CAUSES
rather than the RESULTS of most
disease processes???
CRISIS MEDICINE, ON THE OTHER HAND, IS A BLESSING TO HUMANITY - IT WILL
SAVE YOUR LIFE IN AN
EMERGENCY, RESCUE YOU FROM CONGENITALLY INFLICTED PROBLEMS, AND SPARE
YOU MOST OF
THE UNNECESSARY PAIN AND SUFFERING FROM TRAUMA AND ACCIDENTS - don't
confuse one with the
other, don't throw the baby out with the bath water. WHAT TO DO IF YOU
HAVE A SWOLLEN PROSTATE THAT INTERFERES WITH URINATION:
1. Find a doctor who will teach you how to catheterize yourself.
2. Catheterize yourself three times a day to prevent buildup of urine in
the bladder.
3. This has been reported to have successfully corrected an enlarged
prostate recommended for surgery. Self
catheterization gives the prostate a rest, allowing it to recover. Saw
Palmetto taken on a daily basis helps the
situation.
4. Urine buildup in the bladder can be dangerous, be sure that your
doctor monitors your progress.
PASS THIS ON TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE, ESPECIALLY YOUR LEGISLATORS.

Here's another great link (from the same web site but a different page)
that
lists the herbal solutions to prostrate problems.
http://prostatitis.org/altmedfaq.html
==============================================
I have read where prostrate massage has completely healed enlarged
prostrates, and even worked on healing prostrate cancer. It's hard to
find a
doctor willing to do this anymore, but there are instructions for you as
a
partner to do it for him.  It sounds very easy to do and I think it
would be
worth looking into.
Here's a good site for information on why to do the massage and how to
do it
yourself (sans partner) http://www.prostatitis.org/doityourself.html
Basically, it's pretty easy, especially if you have a partner willing to
do
it for you.  Using gloves and lubricant a finger is inserted into the
anus
and about an inch to an inch and a half in you will feel a lump.  This
is
the prostrate.  The larger the lump (beyond walnut, which is normal
size)
the more massages you should do.  The massage is simple, you just
stroke the
gland (lump).  The man can feel soreness sometimes, if the gland is
large.
So go easy, but the stroking actually drains the gland.  Usually you
have to
do it 3 or 4 different times, but the man will feel so much better after
he
gets over the initial feel of it, and the urine will start flowing much
freer and there won't be any pain when urinating.  I have read where
even
prostrate cancer has responded and "gone away" after some massages, and
for
sure the older men who have enlarged prostrate due to age will all have
better urination  and many times they quit having to get up in the
middle of
the night to pee.

An asymmetrical prostate gland could be a sign of benign prostate
hypertrophy (BPH) or enlarged prostate. The suggestion is that an
enlarged
prostate might be a prelude to prostate cancer. The PSA
(Prostate-Specific Antigen) test is used as a biomarker for the
condition.
There is a LOT of controversy regarding the true meaning of an enlarged
prostate and whether it really is an indicator for prostate cancer.
Frankly,
in and of itself, I don't believe it is. Nevertheless, it indicates a
weakness (for lack of a better word) in the prostate. Start him on saw
palmetto. I also treat for liver too, starting with milk thistle.

Fish oils 'block prostate cancer'
BBC
Wednesday, 22 March 2006
A diet rich in a fat found in oily fish may protect men with prostate
cancer from developing a more aggressive form of the disease, scientists
have found.
Prostate cancer is much more likely to be life-threatening if tumour
cells migrate and invade other tissues, such as the bone marrow. Lab
tests found omega-3 oil - present in fish like salmon - prevented this.
The results of the study, based at Manchester's Christie Hospital, are
in the British Journal of Cancer.
The Paterson Institute researchers tested the effect of two types of
dietary fat on prostate cancer cells in the lab. Previous research has
suggested omega-3 fats, which is also found in mackerel and fresh tuna,
may help cut the risk of cancer - and other conditions, such as heart
disease.
Omega-6 fats, found in vegetable oils, nuts and seeds, also play a key
role in keeping us healthy.
Energy source
However, while omega-6 fats increased the spread of prostate cancer
cells into bone marrow, omega-3 fats blocked this. Researcher Dr Mick
Brown said: "It is possible to have a healthy balance of these two types
of fat - we only need about half as much omega-3 as omega-6 - that will
still stop cancer cells from spreading."
The researchers believe tumour cells might use omega-6 fats as a high
energy source - giving them the energy they need to maintain a high
growth rate and to create molecules that control migration. Omega-3 fats
appear to interfere with this process in some way. Lead researcher Noel
Clarke said: "Some tumours develop slowly in the prostate without
producing symptoms and sometimes when symptoms do develop, it is because
the cancer has already spread. "Eating a diet with the right balance of
omega-3 and omega-6 fats may well help to keep prostate cancer within
the prostate gland where it may be monitored safely or more easily
treated with surgery or radiotherapy."
Larger studies
Derek Napier, of the Association for International Cancer Research,
which part-funded the study, said the findings might aid the development
of new ways to block the spread of many types of cancer. Professor John
Toy, of Cancer Research UK, said the work was still at an early stage.
"We would need large population studies to provide the needed evidence
to say a change in diet could reduce prostate cancer cells from
spreading," he added.
Prostate cancer is the most common male cancer in the UK. The research
was funded by the Association for International Cancer Research (AICR)
and the Medical Research Council (MRC). The Food Standards Agency
recommends men can eat up to four portions of oily fish a week.

Protocol
Prostate cancer: metastasized/late stage Not all prostate cancer (PC) is
systemic, anymore than all breast cancer or other tumor types are
systemic. If they were, we would never cure any man or woman of PC,
breast cancer, or any other malignancy. Physicians claiming that every
man with PC needs androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) as primary and sole
therapy are blindly ignoring the growing numbers of men who present 8 to
15 years after radical prostatectomy (RP) or radiation therapy (RT) with
a flat PSA graph. Emphasis on the use of routine prostate specific
antigen (PSA) monitoring starting annually at the age of 40 with PSA
velocity and doubling time determinations as a standard part of PSA
reporting will increase the numbers of men diagnosed earlier, with a
lower tumor burden, and cured with local modalities of treatment (Labrie
et al., J. Clin. Endocrinol. Metab., 1995; Labrie et al., Urology,
1996). PSA testing with these enhancements should start earlier, at age
35, in men with a familial history of PC. The difference in treating
early PC versus more advanced PC relates to the issue of cure as opposed
to control . . . Read more:

BlankTHURSDAY, March 16 (HealthDay News) -- Capsaicin, the component
that gives jalapeno peppers their heat, may also kill prostate cancer
cells, a new study suggests.
Initial experiments in cancer cells and mice show that capsaicin causes
prostate cancer cells to undergo a kind of suicide. Researchers
speculate that, in the future, pills containing capsaicin might be used
as therapy to prevent prostate cancer's return. According to their
report, capsaicin caused almost 80 percent of prostate cancer cells in
the mice to die. In addition, prostate cancer tumors treated with
capsaicin were about one-fifth the size of tumors in untreated mice.
"Capsaicin inhibits the growth of human prostate cancer cell in Petri
dishes and mice," said lead researcher Dr. H. Phillip Koeffler, director
of hematology and oncology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and a
professor of medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Based on the findings, Koeffler believe the next step is a trial to see
if it works in patients with prostate cancer. The report appears in the
March 15 issue of Cancer Research. Capsaicin probably has several
effects, Koeffler said. Most noticeable is its effect in blocking
NF-kappa Beta, a molecular mechanism that promotes cancer cell growth,
he noted.
In addition, capsaicin also was effective against leukemia, and might be
effective in slowing or preventing the growth of other cancers as well,
he added.
But it's still too early to reach for the chili sauce, Koeffler said. "I
am not recommending that people increase their consumption of peppers,"
he said. "Our calculation is that you would have to eat 10 habanera
peppers three times a week, which would be equivalent to the amount of
capsaicin we gave to the mice."
The researcher believes capsaicin could someday gain a place in adjuvant
prostate cancer therapy. For example, it might be used after prostate
surgery to kill cancer cells in patients whose blood PSA levels start to
rise, indicating the presence of tumors too small to be seen, he said.
The study does highlight the crossover that can occur between
conventional and alternative therapies. "We should take note of herbal
medicines and then use modern-day techniques to find what the active
compounds are and bring them into clinical trials," Koeffler said. One
expert thinks it's too early to know if capsaicin will ever be an
effective prostate cancer treatment, however. "Since large amounts of
capsaicin have never been given to people, we don't know what the side
effects might be," cautioned Dr. Len Lichtenfeld, deputy chief medical
officer at the
American Cancer Society. "We don't know about the right dose or
anything."
Lichtenfeld believes that any trial should be done in patients who are
not responsive to other standard therapies. "We are ways away from a
clinical trial," he said. "We need more basic research before we start
treating patients."
Another expert concurred.
"This study does not prove that capsaicin will prove effective in the
treatment of prostate cancer in humans," said Dr. David L. Katz, an
associate professor of public health and director of the Prevention
Research Center at Yale University School of Medicine. "Nor does it tell
us that eating peppers rich in the substance will help prevent such
cancer, or forestall its growth. But it provides a compelling argument
for clinical study of capsaicin in human prostate cancer to put these
questions to the test."
"This paper should serve to remind us that herbal remedies and
pharmacotherapy are often of common origins, differing only in our
capacity to identify, purify and package the active ingredients," Katz
said. "This work suggests that the conventional medical community should
turn a discriminating eye, rather than a jaded eye, toward time-honored
herbal treatments. Many will doubtless prove ineffective when put to the
test of high-quality research. But some will pass that test, and we must
meticulously distinguish between them."

Prostate cancer cells are wusses when it comes to hot chilies Prostate
cancer cells would rather commit suicide than feel the burn of hot chili
peppers (or, at least, one of chili peppers' components), according to a
report published in the March 15, 2006 issue of  Cancer Research.
Scientists at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute at
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center along with colleagues from the University of
California at Los Angeles found that giving capsaicin, the compound in
jalapeño chilies responsible for a burning sensation when consumed, to
mice in whom human prostate cancer tumors were implanted caused
approximately 80 percent of the cancerous cells to undergo apoptosis
(programmed self-destruction).
The dose given to the mice was the equivalent of giving a 200 pound man
400 milligrams capsaicin three times per week, which is the amount
provided by three to eight fr esh habañera peppers. In separate
studies using androgen-dependent and independent cell cultures,
capsaicin reduced cell proliferation and lowered the production of
prostate specific antigen (PSA), a protein produced by prostate tumors.

      Cayenne Pepper Cures

http://home.online.no/~dusan/books/herbal_cayenne1.html Curing With
Cayenne  [Excerpts from the article are below] by Dr. Richard SCHULZE,
Medical Herbalist Students always ask Dr. Schultz, "What are the ten
most  important herbs to have in the home?" He tells them,"At the top
of the list is cayenne pepper, because it will make the other nine work
better." "If you take cayenne pepper in capsules, you may be wasting
your time and never getting the cures I got with my patients." ...I had
thousands of patients who did the same and  who did not get well -
until they took my cayenne orally. I would sit them down and would
either give them some cayenne tincture or some cayenne powder directly
in the mouth. They would tell me that it was like they had never used
cayenne pepper before. They would say, "I heard my ears pop; I felt a
rush of blood to my head. I can feel tingling in my feet and toes." I
would give these patients just real tiny amounts. These people  might
have been taking eight or ten capsules for ten years, and I would give
them a drop or a pinch of cayenne.
What was going on is that much of cayenne's healing action occurs right
in your mouth. As cayenne touches your tongue, the cayenne absorbs in
seconds and nerve endings send signals  throughout the body - sending
waves of fresh blood to wherever you are sick. New healing begins in
seconds.  These surges of fresh blood do not occur when you bypass the
mouth by taking capsules. For people not used to it, they just need to
work their way up.  One problem people have is that they blow their
mind or their mouth - right off the bat. For some who have never used
cayenne pepper, a good initial dosage is 1/16th of a teaspoonful in some
juice. Most of my patients were sensitive at first. Those same
people,  in three or four months, would be taking two dropperfuls of
my most potent tonic. Some people end up taking six or more
dropperfuls a day of cayenne tincture. You build up an ability to use
it, just like with anything else. It's not  like you need to start off
with a whole teaspoon in the mouth - and then hold on to the arms of
your chair.
If all this is so, then why do herb companies promote cayenne in
capsules?
SCHULZE: They want to sell more. It's for their benefit - not yours.
...It's a shame, because a hundred years ago, cayenne was  considered
to be one of the most powerful herbs on the planet. Nowadays, it has
become more of a fad, and people are not  getting the healing response
that they are due by taking this herb.
They are taking it the wrong way.
But all herbalism today is based on herbal capsules! SCHULZE: This
wasn't the way the old-time herbalists practiced. It wasn't  the way
my teacher, the late Dr. John Christopher, practiced. He got his results
with teas and tinctures. Capsules disconnect people from the herbs they
take, so that they have no personal idea whether they are getting good
or lousy quality. Capsules also prevent people from getting a reaction
in their mouths, which was what Nature intended. Another great reason
not to take cayenne in capsules is that they can make you real sick.
They won't cause permanent damage, but you can suffer greatly. Capsules
can give you a  stomach cramp that will double you over.
When you put cayenne in your mouth, your stomach secretes digestive
juices before the cayenne ever gets there. So when the cayenne gets down
there, your stomach is all ready for it.
But if you swallow a capsule, your tongue tastes nothing; a  capsule
goes down in your stomach, and your stomach notices nothing - at first.
Then, five minutes later the gelatin  bursts, and you have a 1/2
teaspoon of cayenne pepper in your stomach and your body goes into
shock.

limiting the activity of certain enzymes, US and Taiwanese researchers
report.
High intake of the vitamin has previously been linked to a lower risk of
prostate cancer, while other studies have indicated that vit D can
suppress the spread of the cancer. This is the first study that claims
to have identified a specific mechanism.
Over half a million news cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed every
year world wide, and the cancer is the direct cause of over 200,000
deaths. More worryingly, the incidence of the disease is increasing with
a rise of 1.7 per cent over 15 years. The in vitro study, reported in
the journal Carcinogenesis (Vol. 27, pp. 32-42), showed that vitamin D,
in the form of the highly active 1alpha, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3
(1,25-VD), inhibited the function of protease enzymes that are involved
in tumour invasion.

Green Teas major Polyphenol, EGCG, strongly inhibits the
development of prostate cancer in high risk men
Recent studies show that men with high grade prostate
intraepithelial neoplasia (HG-PIN) will develop prostate cancer within
one year. In this study 60 men with HG-PIN were placed on a Green Tea
Polyphenol product consuming 200mg of Green Tea 3 times a day (with a
EGCG content of 51.88% and a total Green Tea Polyphenol content of
75.7%) in a double-blind, placebo-controlled random study. After one
year, 9 of the men placebo developed prostate cancer (a 30% incidence)
while only one man on the Green Tea Polyphenols developed prostate
cancer (3% incidence). The study is published in the January 15th, 2006
issue of the journal Cancer Research.

Hi Tim,

I had chronic severe prostatitis for a long time before I figured out
how to use Rife tech to knock it out. I didn't use any of the standard
nanobacteria frequencies (at least not from the CAFL), but that's
another story.
You wanted nanobacteria freq's so I'm giving you the best I know of -

(NewsTarget) A UCLA study of pomegranate juice suggests it can have a
beneficial effect on prostate cancer in humans. The study, funded by a
pomegranate juice manufacturer, tested men's levels of prostate-specific
antigens (PSAs), a chemical produced by prostate cancer
cells, and measured how long it took the PSAs to double in each patient.
The
men who drank a glass of pomegranate juice daily showed a doubling time
of
54 months on average, as opposed to the standard average of 15 months,
meaning that pomegranate juice slowed the growth of prostate cancer
tumors
to less than one-third the typical rate. The participants showed
suppressed PSA levels despite the fact that they were only drinking
pomegranate juice, and not supplementing the drink with costly
prescription drugs or prohibitively expensive conventional cancer
treatments.
"We are hoping we may be able to prevent or delay the need for other
therapies usually used in this population, such as hormone treatment or
chemotherapy, both of which bring with them harmful side effects," lead
researcher Dr Allan Pantuck said.
Pantuck added that many substances in the juice could be prompting the
positive response, as it is known to have anti-inflammatory effects and
also
protects the body from cell damaging particles known as free radicals
due to
a high level of antioxidants.
"We don't know if it's one magic bullet or the combination of everything
we
know is in this juice," Pantuck said. "My guess is that it's probably a
combination of elements, rather than a single component."

Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA (not LNA in e.g. flax oil) shrink cancer
and BPH too; some studies along these lines appear on my Budwig Diet
revision page. Progesterone cream shrinks BPH by blocking estradiol
conversion, and I just saw case references from Dr. John Lee that showed
progesterone worked in prostate cancer as well. And don't forget the saw
palmetto. Duncan

Mushroom Extract Boosts Action of Prostate Cancer Drug By Greg Arnold,
DC, CSCS, August 3, 2006, abstracted from "Phellinus linteus sensitises
apoptosis induced by doxorubicin in prostate cancer" printed online July
25, 2006 in the British Journal of Cancer With an estimated 234,460 new
cases each year and over 27,000 deaths each year,  prostate cancer
remains the number one killer of men. While there is a 100% five-year
survival rate if the cancer is found early, that rate plummets to only
34% if the cancer has spread.(1) Research has focused primarily on the
ability of nutrition and supplementation, including  green tea ,(2)
soy ,(3) and  vitamin E combined with  lycopene ,(4) to help
maintain prostate health. Now a new
study(5) has found that supplementation in the form of  mushroom
extract
may be able to enhance the action of prostate cancer drugs. Research on
mushroom extract has increased in the last decade(6) due to mounting
evidence of its ability to not only significantly inhibit cancer
growth,(7) but to do so with very few side effects or toxicity.(8) One
of the most potent anti-cancer mushrooms is  Phellinus linteus
(PL)(9) and it is this extract that has been found to help improve the
potency of prostate cancer drugs. In the study, researchers exposed both
normal and prostate cancer cells to low doses of either PL (0.5 mg per
milliliter), a prostate cancer drug called doxorubicin (2 micrograms per
milliliter),(10) or both. While neither PL nor Dox at low doses
separately caused cell death, they found that both given together
elicited "a significant synergy.in the induction of [cell death]" in the
prostate cancer cells but not in the normal prostate cells. They found
that the PL and Dox treatment accomplished this by increasing the
activity of potent anti-cancer enzymes called caspases.(11) For the
researchers, "the results indicate that PL, at low doses, can make
prostate cancer cells, but not normal prostate cells, susceptible to
[cell death by Doxorubicin]."

Agreed. But once you have the cancer, no testosterone. Prevention does
not equal oncology treatment. Peace,

Some veggies may stop prostate cancer  Source: UPI PITTSBURGH (UPI) --
A University of Pittsburgh study suggests chemicals in cruciferous
vegetables, such as broccoli, appear to stop prostate cancer cells from
growing in mice.
Researchers at the school's cancer institute said the chemicals in
vegetables such as broccoli, watercress, cabbage and cauliflower,
inhibited growth of human prostate cancer cells in the mice by affecting
the expression of proteins.
"The contribution of diet and nutrition to cancer risk, prevention and
treatment have been a major focus of research in recent years because
certain nutrients in vegetables and dietary agents appear to protect the
body against diseases such as cancer," said Shivendra Singh, lead
investigator and professor of pharmacology and urology. "From
epidemiologic data, we know increased consumption of vegetables reduces
the risk for certain types of cancer, but now we are beginning to
understand the mechanisms by which certain edible vegetables ... help
our bodies fight cancer and other diseases." The study was presented
Wednesday in Washington, during the annual meeting of the American
Association for Cancer Research. Copyright 2006 by United Press
