Sometimes my urine is a bright yellow. I sometimes smell a coffee smell and, if I have eaten asparagus, a kind of asparagus smell.

Wouldn't drinking plain tea or black coffee also make it yellow?

This is not scientific but from personal experience:
You have to judge frequency of urination from your own history. Going a lot is one way to tell about the sugar. Also, definitely the yellow color of the urine...it's very yellow when there's sugar present.
Also sometimes you will feel a bit of difficulty peeing, almost like a bladder infection..this mean HIGH sugar present...and the most important..is the odor..very strong when sugar is there. Another is brain fog, confusion and memory problems
