It's a no brainer and not major surgery. When I finally had the right
person extract a tooth they just removed it and cleaned the bone, it
didn't even take more time. It's just scraping down to the bone to
present good blood flow. The problem is, the area can't heal correctly
with a useless ligament sitting in the extracted area. I heard someone
once liken this to leaving afterbirth in a woman post-delivery. It
serves no purpose and can cause infection.
When I took my dog in for an extraction I asked the vet if they remove
the ligament - he looked at me like I was crazy and said "do you have
any idea what kind of infection can set in if I don't?"
Stuff can fester in a socket. By the time I had the major surgeries
they pulled out (no lie) old dry socket tape that was packed in my
lower left wisdom site 20 years ago. I saw it with my own eyes. It
never dissolved because blood flow was jeopardized to the area.
Another good reason for anyone dealing with cancer to make sure they
keep the blood thin and flowing in the body. Both cancer and proneness
to jaw infection may present coagulation problems - which most likely
was a problem prior to these.
Keep an eye on that pain.......
